A great ending to a bad week!

This week was rough. I was really homesick, I missed rob, and work didn't go so hot (I messed up a little, but nothing terrible). Needless to say, I was a little sad. But NOTHING makes a week better than half day fridays and beautiful FLOWERS delivered to your doorstep! Rob had a daisy bouquet delivered yesterday afternoon. I was actually taking a nap when they were delivered, and when I heard a knock on my door, I got up to see who it was and there was no one in the peephole. I was like, "Well that was rude! I'm going back to bed!" Didn't even think that there was a little surprise outside my door for me! When I woke up I asked "Oooh who got flowers!?!" (Thinking it was one of my roommates) and they looked at me and said "YOU!" I wish you could have seen the smile on my face!

The message was so cute (even though they messed it up a bit, I still knew what it was supposed to say!): "Didn't see this coming, did ya! Love you so much. Love Rob" The card actually said "Did see this coming" hehe. But it was great bc I've always told rob that I didn't want flowers on Valentine's day and I really didn't want them much at all, but randomly once in a while is more special. Turns out he listens sometimes ;)

Anyways, that was a great start to hopefully a great weekend. We went dt last night and hung out with all the interns, so that was fun. We got to see what dt is really like and some of the crazy people that roam the streets. Today we're having a pool party/bbq and I might go running at a lake! Yay for waking up at 830 and being productive! :)

A little homesick, but it's looking up!

This weekend was pretty fun. We went out with the interns and then made saturday a very lazy day... which was pretty enjoyable. Who doesn't enjoy 3 hours by the pool? At the end of the weekend, I was a little homesick. We watched "The Pursuit of Happyness" and all I wanted to do was have Rob watching it with me or have my sisters there to do something fun. I was a little discouraged about work when I left on Friday, so I was really dreading this week and just wasn't sure what to do.

HOWEVER. Good news- I had a great day at work and finally received some positive feedback. My project is turning out to be a bit harder in some areas, so that's another plus. OOOH, and my boss told me she might have another project to work on it. :)

Tonight we just worked out and watched tv all night, and I like these lazy nights. I realized though, I eventually need to start studying for the gmat some nights... :( I don't want to study when I could watch shows about crazy bridezillas on cake boss... haha. This bride completely ruined a cake bc she thought it was ugly and they REMADE a cake for her! I couldn't believe it! The new cake had all sorts of crazy detail (a cool thing called 'quilting' that was awesome!) and that bride was a total brat about it.

Another random post completed. :)

A normal week :)

Well, things have very much settled down. Other than a minor issue with comcast, we can almost forget all of the troubles of the first two weeks. And that's exactly what I intend to do! So in an effort to not dwell on it, I'll give a quick summary of some things that have happened to me lately:

1. Carly's Graduation. I made a quick trip home to nebraska thursday night - sunday morning and was able to spend time with Rob and the fam and help with the graduation party. I'm so proud of her and was glad to be there to make the party go smoothly! Although I will say... ice cream didn't look nearly as appetizing for a few days following the party. I was on a sugar overdose after the party i think! :)

2. Work. Things are finally settling down. My project is slowly picking up, but i'm working hard to make sure that i'm not bored this summer. I really want a challenge and want to show how much i know because General mills is such a fun place to work! Some of my favorite things about it:
* They give away free food like its nothing. I've got taco kits, chinese food kits, cereal galore, fruit by the foot, granola bars, fiber bars, chex mix... it just keeps coming in. Makes grocery shopping a little nicer. :)
* I won $50 at the intern picnic on Tuesday. That was a great way to end my day! And the funniest thing about it was that as she called my number, I was saying "you know, i never win these things so I don't get my hopes up and then I never get let down!" it was really funny.
* We're doing a scavenger hunt in downtown minneapolis tomorrow. Hopefully the weather is nice and it should be a good time. (Cross your fingers)

3. Since I'm not moving or going home this weekend, this will be my first weekend to truly explore minneapolis. I am a bit homesick and have been sad that I have had a few boring weeks, so I just need some fun to spice up my life. :)

4. Skype. I love it and it's amazing. Long distance would be so much harder without it. At any point in our apartment, you're bound to hear skype going on somewhere. A lot if times we'll yell "somebody's skype is going off!!!" and we all run to it. <3 skype. :)

5. I'm finally back to working out and I'm thinking my goal of getting healthier might be a possibility. One bonus to being bored alot? I work out all the time! Running is become easier and much less of a chore, and I've discovered the gym at general mills has great weight machines, so I'm getting back into lifting (part of the whole "im gonna have a well-rounded workout regimen" plan i decided was necessary this spring).

Well that's all for now. Rob says I've been writing novels on here, and I suppose he may be right... so im going to work on keeping my next post short. Hehe!

Oh and we thought it was over...

So, as of last week, we thought this was all done. But as it turns out, another intern got them in her apartment. Coincidentally (and it was pure coincidence) it was one we spent a few hours in. However, the girl said she was itchy since day one, so we're sure we didn't bring them! But anyways, they are heat treating her apartment. Well, yesterday morning, our roommate was concerned that a) her bites still hadn't healed and b) she thought she might have a few new bites. They didn't find any bugs in the new apartment, but bc they're already heat treating the other apartment, they are doign ours as a precautionary measure. So, tomorrow morning, we have to pack up with the bare minimum and go to work. After work, we'll go to a hotel and sleep there. We should be able to be back in our apartment by 5 on Thursday (which is crucial since im heading home at 830 that night!). They are going to heat our apt to 180 degrees for 8 hours and then that should 100% guarantee that we have no bugs. They insist that our computers should be fine, but I absolutely do not believe that. Every computer person I've discussed this with thinks that is absurd, and I'm not willing to risk my $2000 computer. Sorry, but I'm not that much of a risk taker.

The whole situation has been very stressful. I did so good being positive last week, but now, I've lost patience and hope. I got so overwhelmed that I started crying at work, which was embarrassing but only one person saw me and she was very understanding. That's the last thing i want to be known as "Ashley: the intern who cries." haha. But today, I'm trying to be positive. They are giving us June rent for free (~$400) and $100 check for replacing any destroyed goods, so that is nice. I feel terrible that money is the way they can do to remedy the situation, but there's no way to go back and fix what happened, so it's really the only way to do any damage control.

I guess I can count my blessings. My decision not to move my stuff up here has really benefited me because I only have 2 suitcases + groceries to deal with. The heat treatment is a huge hassle, so its nice not to worry about a lot of my stuff. I can also be glad that I have good roommates. This whole situation would be a lot harder with roommates I didn't like (ahem... remember last year?). :)
