So, as of last week, we thought this was all done. But as it turns out, another intern got them in her apartment. Coincidentally (and it was pure coincidence) it was one we spent a few hours in. However, the girl said she was itchy since day one, so we're sure we didn't bring them! But anyways, they are heat treating her apartment. Well, yesterday morning, our roommate was concerned that a) her bites still hadn't healed and b) she thought she might have a few new bites. They didn't find any bugs in the new apartment, but bc they're already heat treating the other apartment, they are doign ours as a precautionary measure. So, tomorrow morning, we have to pack up with the bare minimum and go to work. After work, we'll go to a hotel and sleep there. We should be able to be back in our apartment by 5 on Thursday (which is crucial since im heading home at 830 that night!). They are going to heat our apt to 180 degrees for 8 hours and then that should 100% guarantee that we have no bugs. They insist that our computers should be fine, but I absolutely do not believe that. Every computer person I've discussed this with thinks that is absurd, and I'm not willing to risk my $2000 computer. Sorry, but I'm not that much of a risk taker.
The whole situation has been very stressful. I did so good being positive last week, but now, I've lost patience and hope. I got so overwhelmed that I started crying at work, which was embarrassing but only one person saw me and she was very understanding. That's the last thing i want to be known as "Ashley: the intern who cries." haha. But today, I'm trying to be positive. They are giving us June rent for free (~$400) and $100 check for replacing any destroyed goods, so that is nice. I feel terrible that money is the way they can do to remedy the situation, but there's no way to go back and fix what happened, so it's really the only way to do any damage control.
I guess I can count my blessings. My decision not to move my stuff up here has really benefited me because I only have 2 suitcases + groceries to deal with. The heat treatment is a huge hassle, so its nice not to worry about a lot of my stuff. I can also be glad that I have good roommates. This whole situation would be a lot harder with roommates I didn't like (ahem... remember last year?). :)
