Recent events have sparked my inner-blogger passion and I feel like I HAVE to write about it! As many of you know, Rob and I got engaged this week! Here are the details of how it went down...
In early November, I challenged Rob to plan a date b/c he was always saying no to my ideas. So he put a date on the calendar (I believe the event was called "Ashley told me to do this") and told me he'd take care of it. So on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving he told me to be ready for reservations in Omaha at 5. We'd been throwing ideas around all week, so this didn't really surprise me. We ate at a very nice place in the old market called "Vivace." I had a really delicious salad and just really enjoyed the meal. Because we'd eaten so early, we were finished at 6... a little early for Rob's plan (which he wouldn't tell me). He suggested we walk around the Old Market and look around the shops. We did this for about 30 minutes and I was starting to wonder if he just hadn't planned anything for after dinner. But then we walked by the sign for the carriage ride in the old market and he tried to sneakily see what time it was coming (but I caught on to that part of it). We ended up getting on the carriage at about 6:45 b/c we had to wait in line behind one group. While we were waiting we took some pictures and even got called "cute love birds" by a man walking by. :)
So fast forward to the carriage ride. We get on and are starting to get settled (it was chilly) and Rob says "I'm gonna zip up my coat." So I think- ok, thanks for telling me? I continue just kind of gazing outward and taking it all in and then about 30 seconds later, I see Rob's hand is stopped at the top of his jacket. I see this and wonder - "What the heck is he doing?" I really start to wonder when he sees that I have noticed and he makes eye contact with me in this odd sort of way. Then all of a sudden he pulls it out and opens the box. Inside was a beautiful 3 stone ring that just took my breath away. I am kind of in shock so I say "Are you serious?" And he replies, "Well, I take that as a yes?" I asked him, "Are you even going to ask?!?!?" and he just says "Well do I even need to?" And I said yes and the rest is history!
When we were done, we had the carriage driver take our picture and with all the excitement, we almost forgot to pay him! He friendly reminded Rob and we were slightly embarrassed, but I think he understood. Afterwords we had ice cream to celebrate, which really is a treat b/c Rob never wants to eat ice cream when it's cold out. :)
Because his family was coming to Lincoln in two days, Rob suggested that we wait to tell anyone. It was soooo hard b/c I was so excited, but we did it. I TRIED to get ahold of a few people (I had permission to tell one person that night) but my sister was in Fremont and Cierra was in the movies! So I sat through many very awkward Thanksgiving conversations ("Are you gonna marry her?" "Are you hiding a ring under the table" etc. ) but on Friday, we happily announced to both of our families before we had dinner.
We told quite a few people that night but didn't make it facebook official until my candle passing on Monday. I'll explain a candle passing later... I have a good story about it! :)
Well, for those of you who didn't get to hear the story first hand, I hope this will suffice. Pictures to come. ;)
Congrats Ashley!
